We the undersigned petition the council to We wish the Council to switch back the hackney carriage & Private hire vehicle licence term to a 12 month term, we make this request because with the massive downturn in passenger numbers we now see a much lower average annual mileage recorded per vehicle than those recorded just 5 years ago. less mileage means less wear & tear. The council would immediately benefit from a 50% reduction in basic licensing costs, this would mean that less administrative staff are required bringing yet another cost saving. We believe that such a policy would benefit both the Council and the licence holders

Currently licensing department staff are dealing with two vehicle licence applications per year, this means two data updates and two vehicle plates being produced each year at a given cost. By changing to once a year licensing costs are reduced by half and staff efficiency will increase as a result of less stress on staff and less staff needed to run the department.
