Councillors J Conroy, R Conroy and De Cruz declared personal interests in Item 5 – “To Consider Again the Rent Increase for 2009/10 in the Light of the recent Government Announcements”, as Council tenants.

Mayor's Announcements.

Minutes:

The Mayor commented upon the parade and reception for the 9th/12th Prince of Wales Royal Lancers, which had been held on 18 March 2009 and thanked those involved in the organisation of the parade and the reception at the Guildhall.

Councillor Woods submitted a report from Cabinet recommending the rescinding of the decision made by Council on 26 February 2009 to increase average council house rents by 5.65% per dwelling per week and to implement a revised rent increase of 2.825% with effect from 4 May 2009 in the light of recent Government announcements.  Councillor Mildren seconded the report.

 

Council debated the report.

 

RESOLVED: (1) That the Cabinet’s decision to rescind the previous decision to raise average rents by 5.65% per dwelling per week previously agreed by Council on 26 February 2009 be endorsed.

 

                        (2) That a revised rent increase of 2.825% with effect from 4 May 2009 be agreed in the light of Government guidance.
