Report of Solicitor to the Council (copy herewith)

The Leader of the Council submitted a report that put forward a proposal for an appointment of Returning Officer as required by the Representation of the People Act 1983. It was noted that any appointment would be subject to the receipt of satisfactory references.

RESOLVED: (1) That until a permanent new Chief Executive is appointed and commences employment the offices of Electoral Registration Officer under Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act 1983 and Returning Officer Local Elections under Section 35 of the same act be filled by the appointment of Jeffrey Stephen Ligo as a temporary officer of the Council to these offices.

                        (2) That should an appointment under (1) above not prove possible then the Solicitor to the Council in consultation with the Leader of the Council and the Mayor be authorised to make such other appointment as they deem appropriate.
